When is your box office open?

Our Box Office is open for in person and telephone bookings Tuesday-Saturday 10.30am-4.30pm. If there is a performance, we close the box office 30 minutes after curtain up. If we have a show on Sunday or Monday, the Box Office opens one hour before the show and also closes 30 minutes after curtain up.

When does the theatre open before a show?

Our building is usually open throughout the day Tuesday - Saturday or 90 minutes before the start of a show on other days.

The auditorium normally opens 30 minutes before the listed show time, which will be displayed on your ticket. Please note, the time on your ticket is the start time, so please arrive before this in order to take your seats.

Bar/Café

What time do the bars open before a show?

The box office bar opens 90 minutes before a show, and the dress circle bar opens 45 minutes before a show.

Do you serve food/meals?

We serve sweets, savoury snacks and hot and cold drinks at our bars.

Both offers are valid on the day of the performance only, when customers show a valid Theatre Royal Wakefield ticket.

Can I pre-order drinks?

Interval drinks can be ordered at any of our bars on arrival. Our bars can get busy so we do recommend pre-ordering interval drinks.


Tickets

How do I book tickets?

You can book tickets via our What's On page, by phone, or in person during our Box Office open times.

I've lost my tickets, what can I do?

Your tickets are held on your Theatre Royal Wakefield account, so they can be found through logging in on our website. If you are unsure which email is attached to your account, please call the Box Office and we can help find your account details.

When and where will my tickets arrive?

Your tickets will be sent to the email address linked to your account after booking is confirmed. Please also check your spam/junk folders. Your tickets will have been emailed from 'box.office@theatreroyalwakefield.co.uk'. Digital pass tickets are available to add to your Google or Apple wallet and will be linked in your ticket confirmation email.

Can I collect my tickets?

If you choose to collect your tickets from the Box Office, you can do that anytime when Box Office is open up until the start of the show. Our Box Office team will ask for your name and address to check your booking and issue your tickets, please allow 20 minutes for this. We will not be able to hand over tickets to any one other than the ticket booker.

Can I exchange my ticket?

Subject to availability we do offer exchanges, with a small admin charge. You can do this in person or by calling the Box Office (see above for opening times). Those with a Members + package or higher can enjoy free ticket exchanges. Become a member.

Can I get a refund?

Unfortunately, once tickets have been issued, we cannot refund them.

Do you offer group discounts?

Group discounts are available for parties of 10 or more. For bookings of over 10 or more, please contact our Box Office at 01924 211 311 or by email box.office@theatreroyalwakefield.co.uk.

Why do I have to pay a booking fee?

Booking fees cover the cost of processing your ticket transaction. These are necessary to ensure our ticketing platform can operate and are outside our control.

Additionally, all tickets include a £2 supplement, the proceeds from which will enable Theatre Royal Wakefield to continue delivering a varied and entertaining programme of work.

Why has the ticket price increased?

There will always be accessible £15 tickets in various locations throughout the auditorium. These tickets are available as soon as the show goes on sale and tend to sell very quickly.

Prices can increase dependent on demand but buying early will secure you the best prices.


Access

Do you have a lift?

We do not currently have a lift in our building. There is an accessible entrance to the theatre via the glass door on Westgate, to the right of the Victorian Theatre Building.

Both the Matcham Auditorium and the Walker Studio have accessible toilet facilities with ramped access. The Matcham Auditorium has 8 wheelchair spaces in the Stalls (ground floor). There are lots of wheelchair spaces in the Walker Studio.

Do you offer carer/access tickets?

Disabled customers can get a free carer ticket if you need to bring someone to help you attend a show. Free carer tickets cannot be booked online and are subject to proof of eligibility. Please call our Box Office on 01924 211 311 during open hours and they will guide you through the process and explain the eligibility criteria.

If you need a wheelchair space, please let us know when you book your tickets. There are discounted tickets for all shows for wheelchair users and their carer or companion.

Do you have accessible performances?

Yes, we offer BSL and relaxed shows for our productions.

BSL interpreted performances are for Deaf BSL (British Sign Language) users and are signed live onstage by a BSL interpreter.

Relaxed Performances are designed as an informal theatre environment. These performances have quieter sound levels and some lights left on in the auditorium. They are specifically designed with for people with an autistic spectrum condition, learning disability, sensory or communication disorder, but of course, EVERYONE is welcome at ALL of our performances. Performances of this kind may also be suitable for some families with young children and any audience members that may sometimes need to move around during a performance.

Do you have a hearing loop?

Yes, we have a hearing loop system is installed in our Matcham Auditorium for hearing aid users. Hearing neck loops are available to collect from our Pre-Show Ticket Sales and Collection Desk on arrival. No need to pre-book. (Please return these after the show)


Parking & Travel

Do you have parking/disabled parking?

We do not have our own car parks but there is ample parking nearby. Please see below for more details.

Where is the nearest car park/disabled parking?

The closest car parks are Unity House car park and Westgate car park. See this full map of parking in Wakefield for more information.

What bus can I get?

Buses 104, 107, 122, 126, 231, 232, and 268 stop at Westgate, with a 2-minute walk to the Theatre. The free city bus also drops off on Westgate. These may change so please check here to plan your journey.

Where is the nearest train station?

Wakefield Westgate is a 5-minute walk from the theatre with regular trains from Leeds, York, Sheffield and London. Details of the station, accessibility and train times can be found here. Wakefield Kirkgate is a 15-minute walk from the theatre.

General

Do you sell gift vouchers?

You can purchase a gift voucher or gift membership via this form.

We also accept Theatre Tokens which can be bought in person from us. Details of the scheme can be found on their website

How do I become a member?

Visit the members page on our website to explore different member plans and pick the one right for you. You can also pick up a leaflet when you next visit which has all the information you need.

Is there an age restriction for solo attendance?

Children aged 14 years and under must be accompanied by a responsible adult (aged 18 years or over) at all times. Theatre Royal Wakefield cannot accept responsibility for unaccompanied children.

Do you offer booster seats?

We have booster seats for small audience members, located at the back of the auditorium in the stall and dress circle. Volunteers can point you in the correct direction and the booster seats are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis

Does my child need their own ticket?

Children under 18-months do not need an individual ticket, they are welcome to sit on the lap of the person they are visiting with for the duration of the performance.
