Wheelchair Spaces

We have eight wheelchair spaces in the Stalls (Matcham Auditorium) and ample wheelchair spaces in the Walker Studio. Wheelchair spaces are not available in the Dress Circle or the Upper Circle of the Matcham Auditorium as Theatre Royal Wakefield currently has no lift and these areas can only be accessed via the stairs.

Accessible Facilities

Both the Matcham Auditorium and the Walker Studio have accessible toilet facilities with ramped access. The entrance to the Walker Studio and the Box Office is accessible via the glass door on Westgate, to the right of the Victorian Theatre building. We have a push button on the interior and exterior side of the glass door. Once inside, our daytime Box Office and Café/Bar has a low counter which is accessible for those who use a wheelchair. Wheelchair users can access the Matcham Auditorium and the Walker Studio through this entrance.

Discounted and Free Carer Tickets

For those disabled customers unable to attend independently we offer one free carer ticket. The carer ticket is only for disabled customers who would be prevented from attending without the assistance of a carer.
The wheelchair occupant and one companion are entitled to discounted tickets for all performances. Please clearly state at the time of booking if a wheelchair space is required. Please download our Access Tickets Policy for further information.

BSL Performances

BSL interpreted performances are for Deaf BSL (British Sign Language) users, enabling them to understand the production through the signs of a BSL interpreter, who stands on the stage. Our upcoming BSL interpreted performances are:

Oklahoma! on Thursday 2 September 2021 at 7:30pm
Beauty and the Beast
on Thursday 2 December 2021 at 1:30pm and 6pm

This is Julie. You'll see her at the side of the stage when you attend a BSL Interpreted Performance.

Relaxed Performances

Relaxed Performances are designed for anyone who would benefit from an informal theatre environment. These performances are specifically designed for people with an autistic spectrum condition, learning disability, sensory or communication disorder. Performances of this kind may also be suitable for some families with young children and elderly audience members.

Theatre Royal Wakefield has a social story for users who would benefit from a visual explanation of the theatre environment and what to expect when attending.

Our upcoming Relaxed Performances are:

Beauty and the Beast on Thursday 25 November 2021 at 10am

Induction Loop and Further Information
