Accessibility Information
VisitingAccessible Facilities
There is easy access to the Theatre via the glass door on Westgate, to the right of the Victorian Theatre building. We have power-assisted doors with push buttons inside and outside the glass door at this entrance. You can use the accessible entrance for shows in both the Walker Studio and the Matcham Auditorium, to get to our daytime Box Office when buying tickets, or for visiting our café bar.
Both the Matcham Auditorium and the Walker Studio have accessible toilet facilities with ramped access.
When buying tickets during the day or drinks and snacks at our café bar, we have a counter which is low enough for wheelchair users to use easily.
You can use the Virtual Tour on our Visiting page to look around the Theatre building before your visit.

Discounted and Free Carer Tickets
Disabled customers can get a free carer ticket if you need to bring someone to help you come to a show. Free carer tickets cannot be booked online and are only available at the box office or by calling 01924 211311.
If you need a wheelchair space, please let us know when you book your tickets. There are discounted tickets for all shows for wheelchair users and their carer or companion.
Wheelchair Spaces
Our larger space, the Matcham Auditorium, has eight wheelchair spaces in the Stalls (ground floor). There are lots of wheelchair spaces in the Walker Studio, which we use for smaller shows, workshops and events.
Wheelchair spaces are not available in the Dress Circle or the Upper Circle of the Matcham Auditorium as these areas can only be accessed via the stairs and Theatre Royal Wakefield currently has no lift.
BSL Performances
BSL interpreted performances are for Deaf BSL (British Sign Language) users and are signed live onstage by a BSL interpreter. Our next BSL interpreted performances are:
Sleeping Beauty: Thursday 14 December 2023, 10am
Relaxed Performances
Relaxed Performances are designed as an informal theatre environment. These performances have quieter sound levels and some lights left on in the auditorium. They are specifically designed with for people with an autistic spectrum condition, learning disability, sensory or communication disorder, but of course, EVERYONE is welcome at ALL of our performances. Performances of this kind may also be suitable for some families with young children and any audience members that may sometimes need to move around during a performance.
There is more information about our relaxed performances, and a social story to help you plan your visit in advance here
Our upcoming Relaxed Performances are:

Induction Loop
An induction loop system is installed in our Matcham Auditorium for hearing aid users. Please ask a member of staff when you get here if you would like some help using this.
Guide Dogs
Guide dogs are admitted.
