The district of Wakefield – including Wakefield City, Pontefract, Castleford and the surrounding towns and villages – is a fresh and bracing place of creativity and surprise.
Every year we welcome thousands of visitors to our galleries, museums, castles, stately homes, theatres, retail destinations, restaurants and more.
This summer, we’re heading towards an incredible season of events and festivals that combined have the potential to attract more visitors than ever before.
Recognising the value and huge potential of tourism into our district, the Wakefield Cultural Consortium have joined forces to deliver the Yorkshire Passion – an exciting programme created by internationally acclaimed playwright John Godber.
The aim of the programme is to develop high quality customer service amongst frontline staff by increasing their knowledge about what the Wakefield District has to offer. We want the people who meet people to feel informed about all our plans for Summer, so they can confidently and effectively spread the word and present Wakefield in the best light.
In the Yorkshire Passion you’ll find out about our plans through two short plays and a film (written by John Godber), and through a workshop discussion and presentation.
Overall the session will be fun and informative – and you’ll leave knowing more about Wakefield’s cultural offer, our plans for the summer, and how you can give great service to those visiting.
Who is Yorkshire Passion aimed at?
Yorkshire Passion is designed for any business, employee or individual who has contact with customers or visitors in the Wakefield district.
This includes employees from:
- Accommodation, food and beverage sectors
- Tourist attractions and activities
- Retail and Leisure sectors
- And just about anyone who meets with customers:- Taxi drivers, hotel receptionists, housekeeping staff, retail assistants, leisure centre staff, restaurant staff… and more.
Why should I get involved?
Tourism is a serious business which contributes over £431 million annually into our local economy, and growing each year.
Whether you are part of the hospitality, service or retail sector you and your staff will already be engaging with visitors. Having the knowledge to promote a positive image of the area really does matter, and the Yorkshire Passion will deliver that.
Yorkshire Passion sessions are FREE of charge. Each session will last a maximum of 3 hours.
The Yorkshire Passion is presented by Wakefield Cultural Consortium and Theatre Royal Wakefield. Supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, and by Wakefield Council.
