In on the Act is Theatre Royal Wakefield’s training programme for young people aged 18-30 years who want to make theatre.
In on the Act meet to devise, write and create new theatre, enhance and develop performance skills and perform scripted work led by a professional director and facilitator.
What you can expect if you join In on the Act?
The group perform a scripted production each year in our Matcham auditorium, with previous productions including classics such as The Crucible, Kes, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream as well as more contemporary writing such as Scuttlers, and The Laramie Project.
There are also opportunities to develop facilitation skills, taking part in educational performances for primary-aged children during Shakespeare week.
Performers are encouraged to contribute ideas and writing to devised work. The group have adapted several books for the stage, both for children and for adult audiences. Adaptations include The Velveteen Rabbit, and, this summer, The Red Shoes.
There are also opportunities to write and perform your own work, with the support of the group and our experienced creative team.

We are looking for dynamic young people from a range of backgrounds to develop performance skills, tell stories and learn from other theatre-makers. The group is suitable for college leavers, undergraduates or those that may not have had any formal theatre training but have had experience with a youth theatre. You must display a knowledge of, and passion for, theatre making.
