The Big Give 2018
Give the Gift of Theatre
Theatre Royal Wakefield has signed up once again to the Big Give Christmas Challenge.
Double your donation!
Help us reach our target of £7,500. With our matched funding through Big Give Christmas Challenge, we can invest £15,000 to support our work with young people.
This year the campaign goes live at midday on Tuesday 27 November (#GivingTuesday) and runs until midday on Tuesday 4 December. Donations must be given online at www.thebiggive.org.uk.
The focus of this year’s Big Give is ‘The Gift of Theatre’. The challenge this Christmas is to allow children in Wakefield to discover:
Their creative talents An enjoyment of live theatre New friends and opportunities
• Bursaries to Theatre Royal Performance Academy
• A school trip to see the Pantomime at Theatre Royal Wakefield
• One-day master classes through the Theatre Royal Performance Academy
The support provided for these young people may lead to work in the industry, build confidence, increase skills and allow them to make new friends.
Why do we need the funding?
Theatre Royal Wakefield's mission is to develop new creative opportunities and experiences, both within the theatre building, throughout the wider community and on tour, encouraging high quality engagement across a broad sector of the Performing Arts.
Young people’s participation and involvement is critical to achieving the community engagement that is an integral part of our mission. During 2017/18, our Learning and Participation programmes worked with 2,100 unique participants in the Wakefield district, one of the 20% of most deprived areas in the country with 27% of children in the district currently living in poverty. We work with community participants to develop work that ignites their passion and creativity and encourages social interaction. Without these additional funds we would be unable to offer support for people to participate.
