THEATRE ROYAL WAKEFIELD HOME TO
NEW JOHN GODBER COMPANY
Theatre Royal Wakefield is set to become the home of The John Godber Company, a new venture for Wakefield’s celebrated playwright John Godber. The Theatre will co-produce future UK tours of Mr Godber’s work, with the majority opening at the Wakefield venue.
Murray Edwards, Executive Director of Theatre Royal Wakefield said, “This is exciting news for the Theatre and the Wakefield District. In celebration of our new partnership John has written a new play entitled The Debt Collectors which will start touring in the Autumn of this year, we look forward to this new era with great anticipation.”
The John Godber Company will be touring two shows per year across the UK with a third tour being added from 2013 onwards. The first tour will be The Debt Collectors, a new play by Mr Godber about two out of work actors who fall into the world of debt recovery, with hilarious consequences. The Debt Collectors will play at Theatre Royal Wakefield from Tuesday 18 October for one week as part of the UK tour.
Mr Godber’s move to Wakefield has huge significance for him both professionally and personally. He said “When considering a home for my new Company it made perfect sense to come back to my Wakefield roots, I have no doubt the new partnership with Theatre Royal Wakefield will be a happy and productive one.”
